This week, three Year 8 HASS classes have been able to learn in the world’s best classroom… West Beach!

Year 8 Geography includes a case study on coastal landscapes and processes that form our beaches. Students were asked to complete a treasure hunt that included looking at wave patterns, finding evidence of erosion, deciding if the beach was being built up or eroded, and what human intervention was taking place to protect the beach. Students (and teachers!) enjoyed the opportunity to learn outside the four walls of a classroom.

On the theme of Geography, our Year 9 enrichment classes participated in the Australian Geography Competition earlier this year. Congratulations to Skye Waters, who topped the school with her impressive result and will be awarded a Certificate of Distinction from the competition. Congratulations, Skye!

Congratulations also go to our Year 8 students who participated in the Australian History Competition last term. The results have arrived! Congratulations to: Jangdren Choden (Certificate of Distinction), Layla Bowkett, Otis Gleave, Coby Guest, Alex Hay, Havarley Lawton, Archie Lykke, Indie-Lee Nankivell, Chelsea Richardson, and Beau Sylva (Certificate of Credit). The results indicate that our students are displaying high level skills of analysis and interpretation of historical events.
