Future Leaders Start in the Classroom

Our new STRIVE program is developing our Year 7 and 8 students’ skills and knowledge of their work capabilities. The program has been designed by Esperance Senior High School staff with the vision of ‘nurturing future-ready learners’ and based on research from multiple education institutions. Across Term One, the focus was on Learner Agency and Goal Setting. Term 2 will be about developing Emotional Intelligence, which is highly valued in workplaces. Mr Reading, Ms Campbell, and Ms Silburn Barker recently presented to other schools our program at the Quality Teaching Schools conference, with a lot of positive feedback from participating schools.

Hello Sharks, we’re looking for investment

Term One finished on a creative and critical thinking note for Ms Docherty’s class. To complete their studies in Economics, students were challenged to participate in a Shark Tank-style project. Students brainstormed, planned, and created an innovative product that there was a gap for in the market. Ms Silburn Barker proved to be a most challenging ‘Shark’ by asking questions of those who presented and what would be the payoff for her ‘investment’ into their product. Students were able to demonstrate their economic knowledge, as well as their communication and creative skills.

A Welcome Back & Planning Ahead

This term, we welcome a past ESHS student, Amellia Graham, who is completing her final teaching practicum with Ms Campbell and Mx Kitson. It is great to have previous students join us as they complete their studies and begin their careers!

Lastly, Year 8 and 9 students take note! Planning has begun for our next Canberra – Sydney camp in 2027! Late this term, I will be asking for expressions of interest to fill the 30 places for the camp. It is scheduled to take place in Term 4 next year.

If you want to see some of the places we will be going, check out the Facebook posts from last year.
