King of the Lab
This week the Year 12 Chemistry students completed a “King of the lab” titration competition.
The competition inspired students’ passion for Chemistry through hands-on laboratory experiments, building scientific skills and practical experience
In this experiment, each member conducted two rounds of acid-base titrations to ascertain the unknown percentage of acetic acid in vinegar. Prior to determining the concentration of the acetic acid, a solution of the strong base sodium hydroxide was standardized using the provided standard hydrochloric acid.
The competition unfolded through distinct investigation activities during lunch times.
Teams were evaluated based on their reported values for the acetic acid in the vinegar and the winner was determined by how closely the value was to the actual percentage of acetic acid in vinegar.
The winners will be announced during the year 12 Assembly.

Egg Drop Parachute Challenge
Year 9 students put their engineering and problem-solving skills to the test in our Egg Drop Parachute Challenge.
Working in teams, students were challenged to design and build a parachute system that could protect a raw egg during a drop of approximately two metres. They were provided with the same materials and were required to include a plastic parachute as part of their design.
During Lunch 1, teams worked together to plan, build, and improve their parachutes. They needed to consider how their parachute could slow the fall of the egg and how their design could reduce the impact when it reached the ground.
The real excitement came during Lunch 2, when each design was tested. Students watched eagerly as the eggs were dropped and discovered whether their engineering solutions were successful.

The challenge was a great opportunity for students to use creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and engineering skills in a fun and practical activity. Well done to everyone who participated and worked hard to keep their egg alive!

Paper Plane Competition
As part of our Science Week celebrations, students were invited to put their creativity and engineering skills to the test in a Paper Plane Competition.
Students could choose from a range of step-by-step instructions or experiment with creating their own unique design. Once their planes were ready, it was time to take to the skies!
Students competed for prizes in several categories, including furthest distance travelled, best trick and best design. It was fantastic to see students experimenting with different shapes and designs while having plenty of fun along the way.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the competition a great part of Science Week!
