At Esperance Senior High School, some of the most exciting events of the school year are the Swimming Carnival, Athletics Carnival, and Country Week. These events are about much more than just sport. They bring students together, create school spirit, and give everyone a chance to challenge themselves, have fun, and support their teammates.
The Swimming Carnival is always full of energy and colour. Students dress in their faction colours, cheer from the sidelines, and compete in races throughout the day. From freestyle sprints to relay races, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Even students who are not strong swimmers often join novelty events and games, helping create a fun and inclusive atmosphere. Most importantly, the event encourages teamwork, participation, and school pride.
The Athletics Carnival is another major highlight on the school calendar. Held on the school ovals, students compete in events such as running, long jump, shot put, discus, and high jump. The day is filled with excitement as Factions battle for points and students try to achieve personal bests. Many students enjoy the friendly competition, while others simply love spending time outdoors with friends. Teachers and Faction Captains help keep the atmosphere positive and encouraging, making the carnival enjoyable for everyone involved.
Country Week is one of the most anticipated events for secondary students. During this special week, teams travel to Perth to compete against other schools from across regional Western Australia. Students take part in sports like basketball, volleyball, netball, football, and hockey while also building friendships and learning valuable life skills. Country Week teaches students the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and resilience. Travelling together and representing the school helps students develop confidence and independence.
These events play an important role in school life at Esperance Senior High School. They create memories that students will remember long after they leave school. Whether competing, cheering, or simply joining in the fun, every student has the opportunity to feel connected and proud to be part of the school community.
