Magic in the Library

2024 Library Book week art installation.

We’ve had a great week celebrating the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week. Book Week celebrates the best Australian books for young adults. The Book of the Year (in five categories) are prestigious awards. Our library has the winning books available for students to borrow.

This year’s theme of Reading is Magic was inspirational. Our library decorations may be our best yet! Students were able to participate in many ways. The inaugural Art Competition was won by Year 7 student Mila King with her amazing “book”. Mila also won the Viewer’s Choice award! Many students completed the Book Week quiz with over 20 students receiving prize bags. As part of the quiz students had to use Hermione’s wand to show their best levitation spell with the words “wingardium leviosa”!

Art students came and “chalk bombed” the exterior library walls creating magical art. It was great to see groups of students racing around the school in the Selfie Hunt. Students used their phones to take some fun photos as per the hunt list. The first team back all won a prize bag. We sent teams of four on a Magic Quest. Teams had to complete a series of challenges to earn a magical creature. The winning team completed all the challenges including making themselves a witch’s hat.

We’ve loved seeing our students demonstrating our SPARK values – joining in with school events and showing kindness by including others in their teams!

We can’t wait to see what next year’s theme will be.

Happy reading!
