Reading at ESHS

This term in English, Year 7 and 8 students continued to explore the wide range of opportunities and enjoyment our school library has to offer. Earlier in the term, Mrs Duffy introduced students to a Book Café experience, where they sampled novels and texts from different genres. Students rotated through the books, reading blurbs, exploring opening chapters, and discussing their first impressions with classmates. The activity encouraged students to discover new authors, genres, and series they may not have considered before. A big thank you to Mrs Duffy for creating such an engaging and memorable experience for our students.

Learning Across the Year Levels

Students across Years 7–12 have been engaged in a wide range of creative and analytical learning experiences in English this term. Year 7 students have been crafting persuasive letters, while Year 8 students recently completed their study of the play Lockie Leonard.

Year 9 classes examined the bildungsroman genre through film studies of Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Jojo Rabbit. Meanwhile, Year 10 students are studying playscripts and music videos to deepen their understanding of issues, context, and visual storytelling.

Senior students have also been busy preparing for key assessments. Year 11 students explored the ethical debates surrounding artificial intelligence and studied the novella, Animal Farm. Year 12 General students recently completed their Externally Set Task (EST) and are beginning a new focus on the crime genre. We wish our Year 12 ATAR students the very best as they prepare for their Semester One examinations next week.
