We’re making some important changes to Electric Scooters at ESHS.
Starting next Monday October 14th, Students will not be permitted to leave their scooters outside Student Services. They must be secured at the bike racks or moped space in the front carpark. Students are strongly advised to bring their own locks, as they will not be provided.
It is also important to note the following rules and laws for e-scooters:
- Only one person per device.
- eRiders must wear an approved helmet.
- eRiders must have lights and reflectors when riding at night.
- Where possible, a bell or other warning device must be fitted to the eRideable and sounded when approaching pedestrians.
- You must not touch or use a mobile phone when on an eRideable.
- eRiders are subject to the same drink and drug driving laws as motor vehicle drivers.
- eRiders must be a minimum of 16 years of age. However, children under 16 are permitted to ride low-powered electric scooters which do not exceed 200w or 10km/h.
- eRideables are classed as vehicles, so all road laws that apply to vehicles apply to riders as well, unless they are expressly excluded. eRideable riders share the same rights and responsibilities as drivers and must obey the road rules. The following penalties apply to eRideable riders specifically.
We also encourage families to visit the Road Safety Commission website for more information.
