Careers Update: A Busy Term with Exciting Opportunities Ahead

It has been a busy term over here in Careers! The career Launch Pad has gone live, so feel free to check it out for all the latest news and helpful links.

Year 9 Career Tasters

Next week, our Year 9s will dive into their first career taster at TAFE’s Try-A-Trade program. Over three days, 15 students will immerse themselves in the TAFE learning environment, exploring carpentry, tiling, and plastering. Looking ahead to next term, we have even more Career Tasters planned, including visits to CBH, Floristry, Drones, Hospitality, and more! Remember to keep an eye out for notices and get your notes in promptly to avoid disappointment.

Year 10 Career Camp

A big shoutout to 57 of our Year 10 students who have been super organised and are gearing up for Career Camp in Perth during Week 3 next term, with a massive thanks to Southern Ports Authority community grants I have been able to add a day and lots of extra activities to make the absolute most of the week away. Highlights include visits to all five WA universities, North Metro TAFE’s open-cut mine and Arts department, the WA Police Academy, the Careers Expo, Optus Stadium, and fun at Strike Carousel with bowling, laser tag, and mini golf. To top it off, we’ll head to Cahoots Adventure Camp for high ropes, flying fox, and climbing wall challenges. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable experience!

Year 12 Plans

Our Year 12 students have been busy thinking about their post-high school plans through an intentions survey. This has helped gather information on who is aiming for university, apprenticeships, or the workforce.

This term, they have enjoyed a Healthcare trip to the hospital, where they toured the facilities, interacted with healthcare professionals, and participated in hands-on activities like birthing scenarios, casting a broken arm, and CPR/defib training. Curtin Kalgoorlie came down and we heard from Tyrone and Andrew about their journeys and courses on offer in Kalgoorlie in Healthcare and Mining. TISC also ran an informative session on university applications, and students interested in Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy benefitted from a session with the Rural Clinical School. We were also fortunate to host CROHC, with five second-year Curtin medical students sharing insights into life at Curtin and even teaching students how to take blood pressure readings.

If any Year 12s need help, guidance, or direction with their plans for the future, please come see me or send me an email—I’m here to help!
