Term 1 has been unusually warm… the biggest issue for the farm crew at EFTC was the state of our grass outside the classroom due to the lack of water! But, with a bit of rain and some TLC -the grass will be back on track.
This term students and TO’s have constructed a playing field in the front paddock with the installation of a fence dividing the paddocks. We look forward to having a dedicated space to kick the ball around (whichever code of “football” you follow J); just watch out for any stray heifers in the paddock…and Goose…
And speaking of Goose…. Goose is a kelpie and a total ball hog who likes cooling off on hot days in the nearest water trough. We often get to see her with wet paws and the nearest “football” in her mouth. She will join whoever’s team is playing basketball and is too cute to say no to for cuddles and the occasional sandwich.
Pickles is the latest working dog kelpie who has a fondness for cheese, cuddles and chasing the bulls. She is a particularly good livestock dog and shows promise.
In early March students and a few staff devised making wounds with silicone and some very realistic fake blood. This is known as ‘moulage’ and the aim is for students to practice first aid wound care in case of an emergency in their Department of Fire and Emergency Services Cadets.
Year 11 and 12 Cadets assisted with creating a floating Pontoon for the dam from drums, steel beans and some planks. The aim is to use this for some kayaking.
This year’s Student Representative for EFTC is Sean Kirwan. His role is to represent all students at EFTC to the student council.
Upcoming events will include continuing with spreading for seeding, lambing and calving in April. Stay tuned for more!
