What a time to be a HASS teacher! Our faculty thoroughly believes that HASS is about what is happening outside your window, not just what we learn in our classrooms.
This term classes in year 7 – 9 have all been immersed in learning Civics and Citizenship. From structure of federal parliament (bicameral is one of our favourite terms!), learning about rights and freedoms (who knew they aren’t actually written in the constitution!) to analysing political poster, advertising and campaigns. We are lucky to be able to relate our classroom learning to the ‘real life’ politics that is unfolding in WA and across Australia.
Throw in a tropical cyclone to talk about in Geography and changes to the world economy (anyone heard of tariffs?) for Economics – how much can we handle!
To take a break from the routine of school, you might see our HASS teachers in the wild! Showing that they can ‘Act. Belong. Commit.’ you might find Mr Reading catching a few waves, Ms Docherty at basketball or netball, Mr Dornan at the gym and Ms Campbell, Mx Kitson and Dr Redpath at soccer training!
