Next week, 7th March, we will see our school host our first major Carnival for the year, the Faction Swimming Carnival. Although we see students fiercely competing in races and fun events during the day, the Swimming Carnival is also about building relationships with peers and staff while having a sense of belonging to a group. A great reason to be a part of such a special event, particularly for the new year sevens to the school.
Students are encouraged to dress up in their faction colours and come and support their fellow swimmers, whether it be competing in swimming races, fun team events, or cheering from their faction bays. The aim of the day is to embed a healthy rivalry between the factions where students feel pride competing for their colour and to identify and reward those students who are gifted in swimming.
Students will need to return their permission note by Tuesday, 4th March, for them to attend the carnival. Notes can be collected from the Physical Education Department. Last year, we had 113 competitors from years seven to 12, and this year we have already received over 120 completed forms back with plenty more days to receive them.
Students should be aware that they are to wear school uniform on the morning of the Swimming Carnival and attend their normal period one class. During Period two, the students will have the opportunity to change into their swimwear and faction colours. Students will catch a bus to the Bay of Isles Leisure Centre, compete in the carnival, and at the end of the day, either catch a bus back to school or be dismissed from the pool. Parent and carers are encouraged to spectate and support their child on the day. Please note, students will not be able to access the kiosk during the carnival times. They will need to bring a packed lunch and snacks.
The next major competition will be our Faction Athletics Carnival held on the last day of term one, 11th April. This is another fantastic opportunity for healthy competitiveness among our four factions.
