Humanities and Social Sciences is all about what is happening outside your window. This term we have been able to teach each of our classes just that – the world outside our window is ever changing and we need to develop and appreciate our place in that world through our Civics and Citizenship program. From discussions on the 1967 referendum, the outcome of the US Elections, and barriers to justice, students have developed their understanding of our political and legal system.
Year 7s have had their understanding of our local Kepa Kurl Nyungar culture and language enhanced through visits with Annie and Wanika from Dabungool Discovery Tours. Students learned language, sign language and even what bush tucker lies in the bushes at the back of the ovals!
Congratulations go to the following year 9 students who participated in the Australian Geography Competition this year. Students tested their geographical skills and knowledge against students from all around Australia. Over 54,000 students from 600 schools across Australia entered the competition which aims to encourage student interested in geography and to reward student excellence.

Finally, we are in the very early stages of planning for an excursion to Canberra in term four next year. We will be inviting year 9 and 10 students in 2025 to join us on this adventure to Australia’s capital city. More information regarding this will be available very soon.
