Following Your Dreams

The Follow the Dream program supports Indigenous students with aspirations to successfully complete their secondary schooling, show an aptitude for learning, and demonstrate a positive approach towards education. Even though academic enrichment lies at the heart of the program students are also offered other opportunities to enrich their learning experiences.

Term 3 and 4 have been very busy for us at ESHS Follow the Dream with afternoon tutoring and mentoring, monitoring academic achievements and through personalised learning plans maximising the student’s chances to succeed. Support was also provided specifically to Upper school students to achieve their OLNA requirements, preparing for exams and completing their courses. What an honour to be part of this program supporting students to achieve their goals and in particular the twelve Year 12 Follow the Dream students who will graduate this year with their WACE certificate.

To broaden their horizons and further investigate post school pathways, students had the opportunity to attend a Career camp in Perth, visiting various universities, the Skills west Career expo and with the Polly Farmer Foundation for morning tea. During this event, students met with their main sponsors and learned about career pathways into mining and other industries.

Another opportunity for Upper school VET students to explore mining careers, was hosted by IGO at their NOVA operation near Fraser Range. During the two day camp, students didn’t only learn about the mining process of copper, nickel and cobalt but also the endless amount of careers and jobs that require such an operation. Fingers-crossed to some of the students who applied now to join their Ngadju Traineeship program next year.

9. FTD Celebration afternoon

To celebrate the successes of all the ESHS Follow the Dream students this year, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon with family, friends, tutors and other staff at the Esperance Bay Yacht Club. Some student were acknowledged for their special achievements this year in academic, leadership and tutoring performances. Well done to each and every students for making the 2024 Follow the Dream year such a joyful place. I wish you all a very blessed Christmas time and look forward to see you all back for 2025!
