Updates From the Art Department
ESHS Music students accompanied by staff members Tim Holland, Jemma Donovan, Lyndel Taylor and Brett Watchorn, performed at the Shire’s Morning Melodies Concert on Thursday 10 October. ESHS Guitar Ensemble and ESHS Vocal Ensemble each performed 3 pieces that they have been working on all year. Year 11 students Taite Bailye and Jett Fletcher performed Frank Sinatra’s My Way – a crown favourite – and Year 10 student Calypso Shelton played two beautiful solo piano pieces. Year 9 student Kasey Walsh played 2 songs on flute: Sweet Caroline, which everyone sang along with, and Can’t Help Falling In Love which saw some of the audience get up and slow dance to.
Despite some technical glitches (which seem to always happen with live events – but what a great ‘real world experience’ for our students to learn from), the performance as a whole was a resounding success. Staff and students dealt with the minor problems with professionalism and maturity, thus demonstrating resilience for the community.
Esperance Community Member, Margaret Alderson, commended both staff and students for their ‘inspiring renditions of well selected’ repertoire. Bohemian Rhapsody was added as an encore item due to the overwhelming support from the audience. This proved to be a particular crowd favourite, again seeing/hearing many audience members joining in and singing with the staff and students. Our two young soloists, Calypso Shelton and Kasey Walsh have been requested by the Shire to perform as part of their Christmas Entertainment, thanks to their beautiful performances on Piano and Flute. Only they know if they will take up the opportunity to showcase their skills again and help the whole of Esperance get in the Festive Spirit.
If you missed out on coming down to Morning Melodies, there are LOTS of performances by these talented students coming up. Concert Band and Guitar Ensemble will be playing at both Castletown Primary and Esperance Primary schools next week; Vocal Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble will be playing pre-Graduation on 23 October and we will be holding our annual Christmas Sing-A-Long in Week 9.
For further information about any of these events please contact Sarah Watchorn at the School.
