Aboriginal Education

Aboriginal students at the High School now account for over 17% of the school community. The majority of these students are from the Esperance area however we are lucky to have a diverse Aboriginal community studying at the school. We have many students enrolled from the Goldfields towns of Lenora, Menzies and Kalgoorlie and sometimes from as far as the Pilbara, Kimberleys and the Northern Territory.

The High School runs three very effective and successful programs for Aboriginal students. We are the base for the South East Clontarf Academy which also works with one of our feeder primary schools, Nulsen. The Follow the Dream program began in 2004 and continues to go from strength to strength. The Stars Foundation program is tailored to meet the unique needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women – with the aim of promoting positive education, employment and life outcomes.

The school has a pastoral care role at the school of Aboriginal Education Coordinator. The role signifies the schools commitment to ensure all Aboriginal students are supported during their journey through school whether they are part of the three programs of Follow the Dream, Clontarf, Stars Foundation or not.

The school continues to show its commitment to ensuring all high school students have a cultural awareness by offering Aboriginal Cultural Studies as a class in Year 7 and Year 8, along with commemorating and celebrating events on the calendar such as NAIDOC week.
